Gene’s Miscellanous Videos

Let’s Dick Around:

The “Let’s Dick Around” video series was created as a kind of catch-all for video series that I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy and for those that I really didn’t have a particularly set upload schedule for. This series was originally started due to my playing of X3: Terran Conflict; a mightily open-ended game with a learning curve that’s similar to that of Dwarf Fortress. Truly this category contains some of the more ‘rambunctious’ of my videos. As a rule these videos will be of varying length and posted in only a single video; be prepared to sit around for awhile or pause/resume at a later time on some of the longer ones (I do attempt to keep from going too far over an hour a video, though).

ARMA 2
ARMA 2 is what most consider one of the top tier in regards to ‘hardcore’ military simulation. It also tends to be a very fun (if at times frustrating) game to be played both alone and in groups. In this series I will be doing both. I will also be making an ass of myself and displaying my ineptitude when it comes to military protocol, gear, and vehicles. Fun times will be had!
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
The best way I’ve heard to describe Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is “Counter Strike but with swords”. In playing it I have found this passingly true. It’s somewhat like Counter Strike in that it’s multiplayer and player-versus-player, but I find it much more visceral (and at times hilarious).
Dungeons of Dredmor
A rogue-like (Google it if you don’t know what they are) with an actual user-interface!? You don’t say! Released by Gaslamp Games, this rather irreverent little hack-and-slash title promises hours of fun in a simple (at least to outward appearances) package. It also promises death. And lutefisk. How long can I last in the Dungeons of Dredmor?!
Dwarf Fortress – Adventure Mode
Developed by Bay12Games, Dwarf Fortress is a game made for an incredibly niche audience that slowly grows with each passing year. The game’s titular mode (Fortress Mode) involves leading a pack of dwarves and somehow managing to survive the harsh reality that is the game’s generated environments. There are no ‘win’ conditions here, only suffering and Fun!
FTL
FTL bills itself as a space roguelike. Its draws a myriad of unlockables and a difficult (if fair) atmosphere. The game also features real-time combat and a fairly large array of weapons. Time to take this baby for a spin!
X3: Terran Conflict
These videos encompass me learning how to play (and often being confused by) X3: Terran Conflict; by far one of the best space-sims I’ve ever played.

Hours 5 and onward are me running the game with a number of mods in play. View the Hour 5 post for info on what mods I’m running.

Rogue’s Corner

Rogue’s Corner is a series that is based entirely around roguelikes and games based off of that concept. Herein lies ASCII art and hellishly confusing gameplay. Games shown here are typically played until I get pasted by some unknown horror; there will likely be rare occasions where I make multi-part episodes. That said, expect some episodes to be much longer than others.

Rogue’s Corner
The Rogue’s Corner proper is dedicated to playing all sorts of various roguelikes in short spurts. Don’t expect more than an episode or two dedicated to most games here. I may, however, go back and revisit games that I particularly enjoyed.
